Kinshasa, DR Congo: Health authorities and international partners are stepping up efforts to control a rapidly spreading Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The outbreak is being caused by the Bundibugyo virus, a strain of Ebola that has created serious challenges for health authorities.
The World Health Organization says the outbreak has now spread across 60 health zones in six provinces, showing the difficulty of containing the disease.
A vaccination campaign has also begun, with health workers and other frontline personnel among those being prioritised.
The response is being complicated by insecurity, population movement and pressure on the health system.
The WHO continues to work with Congolese authorities and international partners to slow transmission and protect communities.
