EFCC to Appeal Ruling on Nine Properties Linked to Malami

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it will appeal a court decision involving nine properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

The EFCC had sought the final forfeiture of the properties as part of a wider asset-recovery case.

A Federal High Court had earlier ordered the forfeiture of 48 properties connected to the former minister but released nine others after finding that the EFCC had not established sufficient grounds for their forfeiture.

The anti-graft agency says it intends to challenge the decision involving the nine properties.

Monafrika Take: The appeal will keep attention on Nigeria’s increasingly aggressive asset-recovery campaign and the legal limits surrounding forfeiture proceedings.
