Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the Lagos State Public Works Corporation to begin immediate repairs and rehabilitation of damaged roads across the state.
The move is intended to take advantage of improving dry-season conditions, which make road construction and asphalt laying easier.
The General Manager of the corporation, Tokunbo Ajanaku, said road projects were being carried out in several parts of Lagos, with Oshodi-Isolo among the areas receiving attention.
Roads identified for reconstruction in the area include Godwin Omonuwa Road, Taiwo Street, Salamotu Street, Peter Agah Street and Ibeh Street.
Other ongoing projects include work on Ogunnusi Road in Ojodu, Awolowo Way in Ikeja, roads in Shomolu and Idimu-Ikotun Road in Alimosho.
The corporation said some maintenance activities were being scheduled at night to reduce traffic disruption. It also urged residents to protect roads by keeping drainage channels clear and avoiding practices that contribute to road damage.
The state government expects the repairs to improve movement, road safety and access to businesses and residential communities.
Monafrika’s Take
Road repairs are important for residents, traders and transport operators. However, Lagos needs lasting solutions rather than repeated repairs to the same roads. Proper drainage, quality construction and regular maintenance will help roads last longer and reduce the burden on taxpayers.
