President Bola Tinubu is expected to flag off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 376-kilometre Lambata–Bida–Mokwa–Makera–Kontagora Federal Highway in Niger State on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Bida at noon. Minister of Works David Umahi, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and other government officials are expected to attend.
The road project is expected to improve transport links across Niger State and make it easier for farmers, traders and transport operators to move goods between communities and markets.
According to reports, the highway will connect Lambata, Bida, Mokwa, Makera and Kontagora. The route serves communities that depend on road transport for agriculture, trade and other commercial activities.
Improved road access could help farmers transport produce more easily, reduce delays for commercial vehicles and strengthen links between farming communities and markets.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris has described the project as an important intervention for agricultural and commercial activities in the state. Reports put the project’s estimated value at approximately ₦1.5 trillion.
However, details on the construction contractor, implementation schedule and expected completion date were not provided in the reports reviewed.
Monafrika’s Take
The highway could play an important role in improving agricultural trade and connecting communities across Niger State. Better roads can help farmers reach markets, make transport more reliable and support local businesses.
However, the real benefits will depend on how well the project is funded, delivered and maintained. Nigerians will also want clear information on the construction timeline, public spending and progress toward completion.
