EFCC Declares Former Pension Boss Abdulrasheed Maina Wanted Again

ABUJA, Nigeria — September 24, 2026

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The EFCC issued the wanted notice on Wednesday, September 23, and appealed to members of the public with information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact the commission or other security agencies. 

Who is Abdulrasheed Maina?

Maina, 61, served as chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms between 2010 and 2013.

He has previously faced prosecution by the EFCC over allegations involving pension funds. He was convicted by the Federal High Court in Abuja in a separate money-laundering case, and the Court of Appeal later upheld that conviction.

New wanted notice

The latest EFCC notice concerns an alleged receipt of stolen property. The agency has not, in the notice, provided detailed information about the property involved or stated that the new allegation is the same matter as his earlier conviction.

Reports also indicate that Maina is facing a separate pending case involving an alleged ₦738.6 million in stolen funds. That case is distinct from the wording of the latest wanted notice.

EFCC seeks information

The anti-graft agency has asked anyone who knows Maina’s whereabouts to contact its offices or the nearest police station or security agency.

The EFCC listed offices in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt and other cities for receiving information.

Important clarification

The latest wanted declaration is an investigative action, not a new conviction. The allegation of receiving stolen property remains an allegation unless established in court.
