DURBAN, South Africa
South African police have confirmed that 11 people were killed and three others injured in a shooting at KwaMakhutha, south of Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to the South African Police Service, three men allegedly arrived at a house where people were holding a gathering on Tuesday night and opened fire.
Police said 10 victims died at the scene, while another died after being taken to hospital. Three others were injured.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Police also said some of the victims were known to Crime Intelligence in connection with alleged illegal activities. However, authorities stressed that the motive for the shooting has not yet been confirmed.
Police said a possible dispute between rival groups could not be ruled out.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities are continuing their investigation and searching for those responsible.
At this stage, claims about the motive should therefore be treated as investigative possibilities, not established facts.
Monafrika Watch:
The focus now is on identifying the attackers, establishing the motive and determining whether the incident is connected to organised criminal activity.
