Nigeria Targets $100 Billion Tourism and Creative Economy
The Federal Government is stepping up efforts to make Nigeria a stronger tourism and entertainment destination through the “Ember to Remember 2026” campaign.
The programme is a coordinated 100-day national tourism season running from September to December, bringing together cultural events, tourism destinations, festivals and creative activities.
The government says Nigeria’s tourism and creative economy could contribute as much as $100 billion to the economy.
The campaign is expected to involve state governments, hospitality businesses, investors, technology platforms and creative entrepreneurs.
Nigeria has major tourism assets, from its beaches, mountains, and wildlife to its festivals, food, music, fashion, and cultural heritage.
Monafrika’s Take
Nigeria already has the attractions. What the country needs is better infrastructure, security, clean tourist sites, good roads and professional hospitality.
Tourism should not only bring visitors into Nigeria. It should also create jobs and income for the communities where these attractions are located.
