Ride-hailing company Uber has officially ended its operations in Nigeria after 12 years in the country’s growing digital transportation market.
Uber announced that its Nigerian operations would wind down from September 2, 2026, bringing an end to a presence that began with its Lagos launch in 2014.
The company later expanded to other Nigerian cities as app-based transportation became increasingly popular among commuters.
Uber did not give a detailed explanation for the decision, but Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry has faced significant challenges, including rising fuel prices, inflation, currency volatility and increasing operating costs.
Competition has also intensified, with several local and international platforms competing for drivers and passengers.
Uber said its help centre would remain available until September 23 to assist customers with outstanding issues.
The exit is expected to generate fresh discussion about the challenges facing international technology companies operating in Nigeria.
