Lassa Fever Death Toll Rises to 252 in Nigeria

Nigeria is facing renewed concern over Lassa fever after the country’s confirmed death toll rose to 252.

The latest figures from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention show the country has recorded 1,035 confirmed cases, with a case fatality rate of 24.4 per cent.

Fourteen new confirmed cases were reported in the latest reporting week, with infections recorded in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo and Benue states.

Five states account for a large proportion of confirmed cases, according to the latest figures.

Health authorities continue to urge Nigerians to maintain good hygiene, avoid contact with rodents and seek medical attention when symptoms associated with the disease appear.
