KINSHASA — The Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a major public-health crisis as its latest Ebola outbreak has surpassed 6,000 confirmed cases, with nearly 3,000 deaths reported.
According to figures from Congolese authorities cited by Reuters, 6,041 cases had been confirmed, including 2,911 deaths and 1,366 recoveries. Hundreds of patients remain in isolation or hospital care.
The outbreak is being driven by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. Health authorities face serious difficulties containing the disease, particularly in areas affected by armed conflict and displacement.
The situation has also placed pressure on healthcare workers and supply chains.
International health agencies are increasing efforts to contain the outbreak, but the scale and speed of transmission remain a major concern.
