ABUJA — Fresh disagreements have emerged within the All Progressives Congress following the publication of candidate information for the 2027 elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The latest development has revived complaints connected to the party’s primary elections and the selection of candidates for various positions.
Reports indicate that some politicians and party members have questioned the names submitted to INEC, creating another internal challenge for the ruling party as preparations for the general election continue.
INEC has also been dealing with complaints from political parties over candidate submissions.
In a separate development, the electoral commission rejected allegations by the Nigeria Democratic Congress that it removed its nominated candidates and replaced them with other names. INEC said it did not carry out the alleged changes.
The disputes are important because political parties must settle internal disagreements before the election campaign becomes more intense.
With the 2027 presidential contest approaching, the APC will be under pressure to maintain unity while defending President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
