Osun Killings: Adeleke Orders Panel of Inquiry Into Ikire Violence

OSOGBO, Nigeria — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has established a Coroner Inquest and Panel of Inquiry to investigate the killings, shootings and violence reported in Ikire.

The incident occurred at Naira and Kobo Junction and the Motor Park area of Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area on August 24.

The panel will investigate what happened, determine the number and identities of victims and examine the circumstances surrounding the violence.

It will also look into the conduct of security personnel and whether weapons used during the incident were deployed in line with the law and approved rules of engagement.

Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola will chair the panel, while Abiodun Badiora will serve as secretary.

The panel is expected to begin its work within seven days of inauguration and submit its report within 30 days of its first sitting, subject to any approved extension.

Families of victims have also called for justice and urged authorities not to allow political considerations to interfere with the investigation.
