15 NYSC Members Abducted in Kogi as Security Forces Launch Rescue Operation

At least 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have reportedly been abducted in Kogi State, raising fresh concerns over the safety of young Nigerians travelling on the state’s highways.

The corps members were reportedly travelling along the Aloma–Egane/Ofu axis when they came under attack by gunmen. Reports indicate that the incident occurred while the corps members were returning from their orientation activities.

Security agencies have since launched efforts to locate and rescue the victims.

There was, however, a significant development in the rescue operation. A later report said security forces had rescued 11 people abducted along the Aloma–Egane highway, with most of those rescued reportedly being NYSC members.

The conflicting early figures mean authorities will need to provide a clear update on the exact number of corps members still missing.

The incident has again placed the security of NYSC members travelling to their places of primary assignment under the spotlight.
