Tinubu Orders Security Forces to Rescue Mass Kidnap Victims in Niger State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue people reportedly abducted during a major attack in Niger State.

The attack took place in communities around the Borgu area of the state. Residents said hundreds of people were taken after armed attackers invaded communities during Friday prayers.

A video circulated on social media appeared to show a large number of people being held by armed men. However, the exact number of abductees has not been independently confirmed.

The Presidency described the attack as unacceptable and directed security chiefs to provide regular updates on efforts to locate and rescue the victims.

Local officials also reported that thousands of residents fled their communities following the attack, with some crossing into neighbouring Benin Republic for safety.

The incident has again highlighted the security challenges along Nigeria’s northern borders, where criminal groups and militant organisations have taken advantage of difficult terrain and limited security presence.

The Federal Government is now under renewed pressure to secure the affected communities and prevent similar attacks.
