Kenya Arrests Four as Investigation Into 18 Elephant Deaths Intensifies

Kenyan authorities have arrested four people as investigations continue into the deaths of 18 elephants in the Amboseli ecosystem.

The elephants died at different locations between June and July, including Amboseli National Park, Kimana Sanctuary and nearby conservation areas.

Investigators have recovered chemicals and other materials as part of the inquiry.

Preliminary laboratory findings suggest that a toxic substance may have played a role, although the exact cause of the deaths has not yet been conclusively established.

Authorities are also looking for another person believed to have information relevant to the investigation.

The deaths have caused concern among conservationists because Amboseli is one of Kenya’s best-known wildlife areas and an important destination for international tourism.

Officials have stressed that the people arrested are persons of interest and that investigations are still continuing.
