A major tragedy has struck Sokoto State after an overloaded boat capsized in Goronyo Local Government Area, leaving about 40 people dead.
According to reports, the boat was carrying passengers when it overturned in the Gorau area of the state.
A local official of the Inland Waterways Authority said about 40 bodies had been recovered following the accident. Search and recovery operations are continuing.
