Nigeria Targets $750m Investment to Build West Africa’s Digital Cloud Hub

ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria is making a major push to become one of Africa’s leading digital infrastructure centres, with the Federal Government targeting $750 million in private investment for cloud and data infrastructure over the next two years.

The government recently unveiled the National Digital Cloud Policy, designed to attract investment into Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

Under the plan, the government hopes to attract about $250 million within the first 12 months, with the target rising to $750 million within 24 months.

The policy is expected to support the development of more data centres, cloud infrastructure and digital services in the country.

Officials believe Nigeria’s large population, growing technology sector and expanding internet market allow the country to serve not only its own digital needs but also businesses and users across West Africa.

The plan also includes efforts to increase local hosting capacity and encourage the export of digital services.

For Nigerian technology companies, the development could create new opportunities in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, software development, data management and other digital services.

The government says the policy will also track areas such as private investment, data-centre capacity, digital-service exports, government migration to cloud services and job skills development.

If successfully implemented, Nigeria could strengthen its position as a major digital hub on the African continent.
