Nigeria is seeking international support for a $5 billion education financing programme aimed at improving learning outcomes across the country.
The initiative is linked to a partnership involving Nigeria and Italy and is expected to target about 29 million children and 500,000 teachers.
The programme was discussed during Nigeria’s UNGA engagements, with education presented as a major part of the country’s long-term economic development strategy.
The focus comes as Nigeria continues to face challenges around access to quality education, teacher capacity, school infrastructure and learning outcomes.
MONAFRIKA TAKE:
Funding is important, but the bigger issue will be how effectively the money reaches classrooms and improves what children actually learn.
