Political tension has increased in the Democratic Republic of Congo after opposition supporters protested against proposed constitutional changes.
Demonstrations were held in Kinshasa and other cities on Tuesday.
Police used tear gas to disperse protesters, while clashes were also reported between opposition supporters and pro-government activists.
The opposition argues that the proposed constitutional changes could allow President Félix Tshisekedi to seek another term in office.
The current constitution limits presidents to two five-year terms.
A bill adopted by parliament in June would allow constitutional changes to be put to a referendum.
Supporters of the proposed changes have backed the possibility of changing the constitutional rules, while opposition groups and the Catholic Church have criticised the move.
The latest political tension comes as the DRC is also dealing with conflict in the east and a serious Ebola outbreak.
Monafrika Watch:
The constitutional debate could become one of the major political issues in the DRC as the country approaches another important phase in its political development.
