LAGOS — August 18, 2026
The Nigerian naira continued to trade relatively strongly against the United States dollar on Tuesday, offering another sign of stability in the foreign exchange market.
Available market data showed the dollar trading around the ₦1,350–₦1,352 range against the naira on August 18.
The recent movement represents an improvement compared with the much weaker levels recorded during earlier periods of pressure on the naira.
A stronger naira can help reduce the cost of imported goods and raw materials, although the impact on prices usually takes time to reach consumers.
Businesses that depend heavily on imported products are also closely watching the exchange rate.
For households, however, the bigger question is whether currency stability will eventually translate into lower prices for food, transport, electronics and other everyday products.
The foreign exchange market remains an important part of Nigeria’s economic story, particularly as the government continues efforts to improve confidence in the naira.
