Cyber Threats Rise 45% as Nigerian Businesses Face Growing Online Risks
Nigeria is facing a sharp rise in cyber threats, with organisations recording an average of 4,906 cyberattacks every week in August.
The figure represents a 45% increase compared with the same period last year, according to data from Check Point Research.
The increase comes as Nigerian businesses and government institutions increasingly depend on digital platforms.
Banks, fintech companies, telecommunications firms, schools, hospitals and government agencies all hold large amounts of valuable digital information.
The growing threat also comes at a time when more Nigerians are using online banking, digital payments and other internet-based services.
Cybersecurity experts are therefore warning organisations to take online security more seriously.
Monafrika’s Take
Nigeria’s digital economy cannot grow safely if cybersecurity remains an afterthought.
As more Nigerians move their money, businesses and personal information online, protecting digital information must become everyone’s responsibility — from government and banks to ordinary smartphone users.
