ABUJA, NIGERIA — Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election has entered a new stage after the Independent National Electoral Commission released its final list of presidential candidates and their running mates.
The list includes some of Nigeria’s biggest political names, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
The development formally moves the country deeper into the 2027 election cycle.
INEC’s release also covers candidates for the National Assembly elections, with thousands of candidates cleared to contest various positions.
The election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, meaning political parties now have a much clearer field as campaigns and political mobilisation gather momentum.
The emergence of the final list is expected to intensify political activities across the country, particularly among the major parties and presidential contenders.
Monafrika Take:
Nigeria’s 2027 election will be bigger than personalities. Voters should be asking the hard questions: What will each candidate do about insecurity, jobs, inflation, education, healthcare and the cost of living?
The real contest should not only be about who wins the presidency. It should be about who has the clearest plan for Nigeria.
