Uber Exits Nigeria: Bolt, inDrive Face New Opportunity in Ride-Hailing Market

Uber has officially ended its ride-hailing operations in Nigeria, bringing its presence in the country to an end after years of operation.

The company also exited Uganda as part of the latest restructuring of its African business.

Uber’s departure leaves existing competitors with an opportunity to expand their market share as millions of passengers and drivers adjust to the new market landscape.

Africanews reports that Uber will continue operating in only four African countries — Egypt, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.

The company says it will support affected drivers and employees, while its help centre in Nigeria and Uganda is expected to remain available until September 23.

Monafrika Take: Uber’s exit is more than a corporate decision. It could change prices, driver opportunities and competition in Nigeria’s fast-growing digital transportation industry.
