Uganda Mourns King Oyo After Tooro Monarch Dies at 34

Uganda is mourning the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the long-serving monarch of the Tooro Kingdom, who died at the age of 34.

King Oyo became monarch in 1995 when he was only three years old, following the death of his father. He was recognised internationally as the world’s youngest reigning monarch at the time.

His death was announced after he died while receiving medical treatment in the United States.

Although Uganda is a republic and its traditional kings have largely cultural and social roles, the Tooro monarchy remains an important institution in the country’s heritage.

News of his death has triggered widespread mourning, with political leaders and members of the public expressing condolences to the royal family and the people of Tooro.

The kingdom’s leadership has also assured the public that the institution of the Tooro crown will continue despite the loss of the young monarch.
