DR Congo Begins Ebola Vaccination as Outbreak Raises Fresh Health Concerns

The Democratic Republic of Congo has begun vaccinating frontline health workers as authorities intensify efforts to contain a serious Ebola outbreak in the eastern part of the country.

The vaccination campaign began in Kisangani, with health workers and others directly involved in the response receiving priority. The campaign is being rolled out in affected areas including Tshopo, Bas-Uele and Haut-Uele.

The latest response comes as health authorities face the challenge of controlling transmission in communities already affected by insecurity and limited access to healthcare.

The Ebola response is also receiving additional support. Médecins Sans Frontières has opened a new treatment centre in eastern Congo to help care for patients and strengthen the wider response.

Health authorities are urging communities to cooperate with medical teams and follow public-health guidance as vaccination and surveillance activities continue.
