The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been thrown into fresh uncertainty after President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the federation’s executive committee resigned.
The mass resignation came amid intense criticism following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for major international competitions.
The Super Eagles missed out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the Super Falcons also failed to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup after losing their playoff against South Africa.
Gusau confirmed his resignation on August 27, bringing his tenure to an early end. The development comes just weeks before the NFF’s scheduled elective congress on September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
The leadership change is expected to trigger a major conversation about the administration, development and future direction of Nigerian football.
The NFF itself confirmed the departures in an official statement.
