Uganda has received an experimental Ebola antibody treatment from the United States as health authorities continue strengthening preparedness against the disease.
The treatment, known as MBP134, was handed over to Uganda’s Ministry of Health as part of efforts to improve the country’s capacity to respond to Ebola threats.
Important update: Uganda’s 2026 Ebola outbreak was officially declared over after the country went through 42 days without a new confirmed case. The new treatment therefore forms part of preparedness and response capacity rather than evidence that the outbreak is still active in Uganda.
The development remains important because the Bundibugyo strain involved in the outbreak presents different treatment challenges from other Ebola strains.
Uganda’s experience also highlights the importance of early detection, rapid response and regional cooperation in preventing infectious diseases from spreading across borders.
