Guinea Tragedy: Landfill Landslide in Conakry Kills 30 After Heavy Rains

CONAKRY — At least 30 people have died following a landslide at a landfill in Guinea’s capital, Conakry.

The incident happened after heavy overnight rainfall caused part of the waste site to collapse.

Rescue workers were sent to the area as authorities began searching for victims and assessing the damage.

Several other people were injured in the disaster, according to government information.

The landfill is located in the Gbessia area of Conakry. Reports indicate that the site was already facing concerns and preparations had been made for its closure.

The disaster has renewed questions about waste management, urban planning and the safety of communities living close to landfill sites.
