South Africa Makes $37 Million Drug Bust

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — South African authorities have arrested five people following a major drug operation near the country’s northern border.

Police said they seized drugs and equipment estimated to be worth around 600 million rand, or $37 million.

The operation reportedly took place at a farm near Musina, close to South Africa’s border with Zimbabwe.

Those arrested include two Mexican nationals, two Zimbabweans and one Malawian.

Authorities described the facility as a suspected large-scale drug laboratory.

The operation highlights the continued challenge posed by international drug networks operating across southern Africa.

Police are expected to investigate the source of the drugs, the people behind the suspected operation and possible links to wider criminal networks.

The arrests come as South African authorities continue efforts to disrupt organised crime and illegal drug production.
