Borno State, Nigeria — Families in Borno State are once again calling on the Nigerian government to rescue children who have been held in captivity for nearly 100 days.
The families staged a protest in Uba town on Thursday, demanding urgent action to bring their children home.
The children were abducted on May 15 from Mussa, a community close to the Sambisa Forest. Nearly three months later, families say they are still waiting for clear information about their children’s condition and possible rescue.
About 45 children remain unaccounted for from the incident, according to reports.
The situation has renewed concerns over the safety of schools and communities in northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and ISWAP have continued to carry out attacks and abductions.
The May kidnapping was followed by another major school abduction in nearby Lassa on June 29, when 36 students and a teacher were taken. They also remain in captivity.
The continued uncertainty has left families deeply worried. Local leaders say the government must do more to secure the release of those still being held.
The calls come shortly after the successful release of schoolchildren abducted in Oyo State after about two months in captivity.
For the families in Borno, however, the wait continues.
