Nigerian music star and entrepreneur Mr Eazi is looking at taking his business interests to the Nigerian capital market.
The musician has indicated that he is considering a listing on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) as he continues to expand his business interests.
Mr Eazi, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, has built interests beyond music and has increasingly positioned himself as an entrepreneur.
He has pointed to established Nigerian business figures, including Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola, as examples of entrepreneurs whose businesses have grown beyond individual ownership.
A potential NGX listing would place Mr Eazi among a growing number of African entertainers who are turning their popularity into larger business ventures.
Entertainment meets business
The development reflects a wider change in Africa’s entertainment industry.
Musicians and other entertainers are increasingly moving into technology, finance, real estate, consumer products and other sectors.
For the Nigerian entertainment industry, a successful listing by a major music entrepreneur could also encourage other entertainers to think more seriously about corporate structures, investment and long-term business growth.
