Sudan War: More Than 200,000 Displaced as Fighting Intensifies in Kordofan

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is getting worse as fresh fighting forces more people from their homes.

More than 200,000 people have been newly displaced across Sudan’s Kordofan region since late 2025, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The displacement has been linked to intensified fighting and attacks on critical infrastructure.

The crisis is being made worse by seasonal flooding, creating additional problems for people already struggling to find food, shelter and basic services.

The Sudanese war, which began in April 2023, has created one of Africa’s worst humanitarian crises. Millions of people have been forced to leave their homes since fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

Kordofan has become one of the key areas of the conflict as both sides fight for control of strategic locations.

The IOM said the latest displacement adds to an already huge number of people uprooted by the conflict.

Humanitarian pressure grows

Aid organisations face serious challenges reaching people affected by the conflict.

Damage to roads and critical infrastructure has made the delivery of food, medicine and other essential supplies more difficult.

The international community continues to call for an end to the fighting and greater humanitarian access.

For ordinary Sudanese families, however, the priority remains simple: safety, food and a chance to return home.
