LAGOS — Nigerian music stars Burna Boy and Tems are once again putting Nigerian music on the global stage.
The two Nigerian artistes have received a combined three nominations for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
Burna Boy received two nominations for his collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira on “Dai Dai.” He is nominated in the Best Collaboration and Best Latin categories.
Tems also received a nomination in the Best R&B category for her collaboration with British artiste Dave.
The nominations are another sign of the growing international reach of Nigerian music.
Over the past few years, Nigerian artistes have moved from being mainly popular across Africa to becoming major names on the global music scene.
For Burna Boy and Tems, the latest recognition adds to their growing list of international achievements.
There is also an interesting twist this year. The VMAs nomination list does not include the Best Afrobeats category, which had featured in previous editions.
That has already generated reactions among music fans, especially at a time when Afrobeats continues to enjoy strong global attention.
The 2026 MTV VMAs will take place on September 27 in Los Angeles.
For Nigerian fans, all eyes will now be on Burna Boy and Tems as they compete for the international awards.
