Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has extended the closing date of its initial public offering (IPO) by two weeks, giving prospective investors more time to participate in the share offer.
The offer, valued at approximately ₦2.15 trillion, will now close on October 27, 2026, following approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The extension is intended to allow more investors to complete their applications and participate in the proposed share sale.
The public offer forms part of efforts to broaden ownership of one of Africa’s major industrial projects and provide additional funding for the refinery’s growth plans.
Dangote Industries has also announced plans to expand the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by early 2029, subject to the execution of its expansion programme.
The development could have implications for Nigeria’s petroleum industry, particularly domestic fuel supply, industrial investment and the country’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products.
However, the long-term impact will depend on the refinery’s expansion, operating performance and developments in the domestic and international energy markets.
Monafrika’s Take
The extension gives prospective investors more time to assess the offer and understand its terms before making financial decisions.
For Nigeria, wider participation in major industrial investments could help deepen the capital market and create opportunities for local investors.
However, prospective shareholders should carefully review the offer documents, including the risks, pricing and investment conditions, before deciding whether to participate.
