NAF Crash: Investigation Begins as Search for Wreckage Continues in Ondo

The Nigerian Air Force has constituted a Board of Inquiry to establish the cause of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The aircraft crashed during a routine mission to Lagos. The Nigerian Air Force subsequently confirmed that 25 people — 20 passengers and five crew members — were on board and there were no survivors.

Recovery operations remain difficult because the crash occurred in a swampy area. Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa visited the site on Wednesday and directed the continued search operation, including the deployment of amphibious equipment to assist personnel working in the difficult terrain.

The Defence Headquarters has also confirmed that an investigation will be conducted to determine what caused the crash.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established. Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues.

The focus has now shifted from the initial rescue effort to two major tasks: recovering the remaining wreckage and establishing exactly what caused the crash.

Until investigators release findings, reports suggesting a specific cause should be treated as unconfirmed.
