Senegal Targets December Deal on Debt Restructuring

Senegal Targets December Deal on Debt Restructuring

DAKAR — Senegal is targeting an agreement with official creditors and bondholders by December 2026 as the country works to restructure its debt.

The move follows the discovery of previously misreported debt estimated by analysts at around $13 billion.

Senegal has begun discussions with creditor groups under the G20 Common Framework.

The country is also seeking a contribution from about 1 trillion CFA francs ($1.72 billion) in total-return swaps linked to government securities.

The restructuring process will be closely watched by investors because of the size of Senegal’s debt obligations and the wider implications for African sovereign borrowing.
