ABUJA — Nigerian soldiers have confirmed receiving their salaries with the newly approved pay increase now reflected in their accounts.
The adjustment, which took effect from September 1, 2026, provides different increases across military ranks. Personnel from Private to Staff Sergeant are to receive an 80% increase, while those from Warrant Officer to Colonel receive 50%, and officers above Colonel receive 30%.
The Federal Government said the adjustment is aimed at improving the welfare of Armed Forces personnel and recognising the demands of military service.
Reports indicate that some soldiers have already confirmed receiving the revised salaries, bringing the implementation of the new structure into effect.
The salary adjustment is expected to cover about 250,000 military personnel, with the annual Armed Forces salary bill projected to increase substantially.

The new salary structure comes as Nigerian troops continue to operate across several parts of the country affected by insecurity. While improved pay could provide additional support for military personnel, its wider impact will depend on sustained implementation and improvements in other areas of military welfare.
