Accra, Ghana — August 18, 2026
Ghanaian students are set to receive more opportunities to study in Russia after Moscow agreed to double its annual scholarship allocation for Ghana.
The number of scholarships will increase from 120 to 240 every academic year.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the increase following his official engagement with Russian officials.
The scholarships will focus mainly on areas considered important to Ghana’s future development. They include artificial intelligence, engineering, petroleum sciences and pharmaceuticals.
The agreement is expected to give more young Ghanaians access to international education and technical training.
Ghana and Russia are also looking to strengthen cooperation in other areas, including energy. Ghana has expressed interest in developing nuclear power as part of efforts to improve and diversify its energy supply.
The additional scholarships are expected to provide another opportunity for Ghanaian students seeking specialised education abroad.
